Parent Involvement in an HCP Show With Children

In a large cast show with a number of children, it is impossible for the director and stage manager to concentrate on their tasks if there is a lot of activity/noise from youth awaiting their turn on stage.  We always endeavour to stagger practice times so that waiting time is reduced but sometimes it is impossible.

We ask parents to sign up during September to schedule themselves over the course of the rehearsal and production time to act as 'Theatre Parents'.  Usually two are required at each rehearsal/production event.

We do the schedule so that no parent/guardian has to be at every rehearsal or show.  Theatre Parents sign up beside the rehearsal/production times they can make work in their own schedule.  (usually amounts to 3-4 times over the 4 month period)

It is very important that Theatre Parents are free to watch their children perform on stage but we do need to have others backstage to help the youthful performers during productions.

Theatre Parents have a job description and are identified with a tag to make sure youth know who to go to if they have a concern.

We hope the above helps to clear up any doubts about parental involvement in our shows.  Always, please contact us at info@hanovercommunityplayers.ca if you have any questions.
