A Clarification

February 29, 2020

Seems to be some controversy about the wording of the Adjudicator's Award of Merit presented to HCP for their set.  The award  was first announced verbally on Feb. 25th at the AGM in Cambridge.  The adjudicator commented prior to another award, that two theatre companies used the periaktois (which are set pieces).  He then made this presentation:

Adjudicator’s Award #4
Sponsor Owen Sound Little Theatre
Some groups are embracing new technologies while others are rediscovering old theatre craft to tell their story. Periaktoi prism shaped flat units used by the ancient Greeks, masks, puppets and acting styles like commedia dell arte have appeared in several productions in our region this season. In recognition to a group that used many of these “old technologies”, this award is presented to:
Twas
Guelph Little Theatre

In conversation with the adjudicator after the awards, another HCP rep spoke to the adjudicator about the award and its meaning and clarification - using old with new (periaktois and the idea of the character of Chiri (Siri in today's technology for example).

Marg Poste, as one of the three reps there for HCP, that night announced it on facebook and this web page, in her own words,  which seems to have upset someone.

Since then, the actual printed wording has come out.  To alay any further woes, the actual award read:

Adjudicator’s Award #6
Sponsor Leise and Jim Peddie
Sometimes blending things creates a new excitement: taking an old tradition and experienced actors and melding it with 21st century ideas and a new generation of actors to create a participatory theatre experience is a wonderful idea This award is presented to:
